Superficial siderosis (SS) of the central nervous system results from hemosiderin deposition in the subpial layers of the brain and spinal cord. Typical presentation of superficial siderosis includes headache, sensorineural hearing loss, cerebellar ataxia and myelopathy. We report a 62-year-old woman presented with headache, sensorineural hearing loss, cerebellar ataxia for 2 years diagnosed as superficial siderosis. Brain MRI with hyposignal intensity along the leptomeninges in T2 sequence was typical in this case, and diagnosis was based on both clinical symptoms and neuroimaging. Treatment of superficial siderosis is difficult because even if we remove the the source of subarachnoid bleeding, the hemosiderin deposition which is already present is not cleared so that it makes the disiease proceed. But recently, there have been some reports of superficial siderosis treated successfully with iron chelator called deferiprone. We tried deferiprone in our case and report outcome of the patient.
